For the lonely giant plant

The installation ’For the lonely giant plant’ takes place at the glass gangway connecting the two buildings of Nordea Headquarters designed by Henning Larsen Architects in Christiansbro. If we take a broader view, it also faces the baroque church, it’s garden, the city to the east and harbour to the west. This transparent interconnecting pathway becomes a shelter for the ‘Giant plant’ which blossoms through the use of the color and light.

During the day the giant softly corresponds to the daylight. By the evening the blossoming becomes more intensive - the interaction of the dichroic film and pre-programmed light shifts transforms it into color changing light sculpture.  Although the installation is placed inside the glass gangway, the transparency of the architectural structure allows the passers-by to observe the sculpture from the outside.

The installation is inspired by  Titanum Arum, the largest unbranched inflorescence in the world. Because of its odor, which is like the smell of a rotting corpse or carcass, the titan arum is characterized as a carrion flower, and is also known as the corpse flower or corpse plant.
